Sandy's Joey Allen intercepted his second pass of the game with under one minute left to seal the Pioneers 12-6 victory over Forest Grove at home on Sept. 4.
Allen, who intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown early in the game, dropped back into coverage with less than a minute left and returned the ball back inside the Forest Grove 20 with 28 seconds remainning.
"I saw the ball sail up and I knew either (Sandy's Marcus Blackmon) or I were going to get it," Allen said. "Then I just wanted to get close so our offense had a chance to get into the endzone."
The offense struggled the entire game and was hurt by numerous penalties as the defense saved the game for Sandy.
"It's a win, but we have a lot of work to do," Sandy head coach Ray Baker said. "We have to cut down on our mistakes and the offense has to move the ball if we want to compete."
