But through these challenges, Chief Skelton has been supportive of his officers, and has taken decisive action when it was warranted.
Throughout his career, Harold has also been an integral member of the Sandy community.
For many years, he managed the DARE program, and worked closely with parents, teachers and school administrators. He and his wife, Debbie, have given hours of volunteer time to Sandy Grade School.
They have provided a welcome home to not only their own children but to other youths they have taken under their wing.
As a member of the city’s management team, Harold has helped other departments in everything from cooking hot dogs for the City Council’s volunteer appreciation picnic to helping with traffic control when the public-works crew removes a downed tree in the middle of the night.
For my 18 years in Sandy, it has been a pleasure and honor to work with Harold Skelton. He has served and protected the city well for 33 years.
He plans to remain active in the Sandy community in his retirement, and we are lucky to have Harold and his family as part of our city.
Scott Lazenby is Sandy’s city manager.
