Why doesn’t the flag fly over Cedar Ridge?

The American flag was never flown over Cedar Ridge Middle School in Sandy during the 2007-08 school year, not even on a day set aside to remember fallen Oregon veterans. I looked to Cedar Ridge School, expecting to see our flag at half staff, but there was no flag.

When school began in September 2008 there still was no flag. I made a few phone calls, and with the help of the Veterans of Foreign Wars our flag went up and stayed up day and night for two weeks. The flag flew for a few more days that year.

At the beginning of the 2009-10 school year, no flag has been out to date. I wonder, could there be a personal agenda at work here?

Editor’s note: Cedar Ridge Middle School Principal Molly Knudsen reports the school’s flag pole was vandalized, and is located in a position where it will be difficult to locate a lift. A lift will be necessary to reach the top of the pole and restring the wire. Knudsen, who described the school as highly patriotic, would appreciate any assistance from the community in making repairs or replacing the pole.

Declare health care a national emergency

Please, why can’t President Obama:

• Declare health care in the United States a national emergency;

• By presidential executive order, mandate that every U.S. citizen immediately become participants in the same health plan as U.S. senators;

• End all other government health plans and mandate all money from – and earmarked for – those plans now go into the new U.S. health plan; and,

• Call on Congress to create a dedicated, progressive, sufficient, health-care tax to further support the new U.S. health plan?

If this is constitutional, why is this not being done?

Opponents of 66, 67 misrepresent facts

If Oregonians vote yes on ballot measures 66 and 67 this month, they will help preserve thousands of essential private- and public-sector service jobs, including my own job working with disabled adults.
