Sometime around the beginning of June, the woman went on a ride-along with Claggett. She said she had been on about four or five ride-alongs with him in the three or four years they’d known each other. Claggett was not at that time a part of the sheriff’s ride-along program and he did not file the necessary paperwork for a ride-along.
The woman said Claggett sent her a text message and picked her up from her friend’s house. She said they drove around for about an hour before heading to Camp Namanu, a private camp across from Dodge Park.
This is where their stories diverge. She said it was his idea to go somewhere secluded, and Claggett made sexual advances at her. He said they drove to the location “to flirt” and she propositioned him.
Claggett admitted that his reason for going down to the park was sexual activity, but claims he changed his mind once he got there, having realized that what he was doing was wrong. Both said they left without any sexual activity having occurred.
In the sheriff’s office investigation, detectives uncovered other instances of potentially inappropriate behavior by Claggett.
In Claggett’s patrol vehicle detectives found a police notebook with phone numbers in it. When investigators researched the numbers, they led to three different escorts named Mahea, Angie and Scarlet and to the MySpace Web page of “Platinum Pleasures,” which the sheriff’s office said “appears to be for an escort prostitution service for the Eugene/Bend area.”
Claggett told detectives he would text back and forth with the escorts sometimes, and sometimes talk about services, but said he had never met up with an escort or picked up a prostitute.
Another Sandy-area woman who came forward said Claggett had sent her text messages asking to see her “boobs.” She said that when she refused, he sent another message that said “something similar to, ‘I know you got them, just show them.’”
Claggett said he did not remember sending those messages, but would not deny that he had.
Another woman said she also received inappropriate text messages from Claggett.
One former Sandy-area woman said that at least three times when she was in high school between 2003 and 2005, Claggett called her friends to find out where underage drinking parties were being held. She said he would show up and harass the boys, but leave the girls alone.
And one woman who Claggett knew received a MySpace message from Claggett that said, ““I sooooo hooked your boyfriend up. You owe me!!!!!!!”
Claggett said he had pulled over the woman’s boyfriend for racing his motorcycle, but let him go with a warning.

While all of us agree that his behavior on-duty was probably a violation of department policy, I don't see where he committed any crime. This is most likely why the DA declined to prosecute the case that was sent to them. What people do on their own time is nobody elses business I guess unless you are a cop. If Claggett were a mortgage broker or a sales rep, this behavior would be totally acceptable, even expected by most. Cops have to be very careful what they do and who they associate with, even if they aren't doing anything wrong and not doing anything illegal, someone could still get upset and start a hornets nest up on you. The question now is, how many other CCSO Deputies have done the same thing and not gotten caught or had their behavior covered up by supervisor friends? I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a whole lot of this type of behavior has gone on in CCSO that has gone un-reported. Maybe Claggett knows some dirt and could enlighten us? Regardless, I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

What people don't realize is that this has been going on for quite some time. I personally know some people that have had some encounters with Claggett, he is a coward, the only reason he turned in his badge is because he knew the investigation would stop. The people that have been victim's to this sick man should come forward and press charges. We all need to stand together and fight against these pigs hiding behind a badge and gun, and take back the meaning of protect and serve.

Please keep in mind this is just one guy who has a serious problem, and good riddence that he is no longer on the job. The vast majority of cops, Deana, are hard working, dedicated professionals who put their lives on the line to try and make our world a little bit safer. Keep in mind, it was other cops who drove him out, instead of covering for him, so perhaps it should be you who needs to "...get on with life."

In a perfect world none of us would be bad people. We would all be law abiding citizens, therefore no need for law enforcement. If agencies would take all the time needed to make sure they are not hiring any "sickos" as police officers, there wouldnt be any on the streets, or working in the jails. So, they just do the best they can in hoping they would hire the right people, to " protect and to serve". This guy puts another blemish on the faces of ALL good cops. Thats too bad. As always, I feel sorry for the victims, even though they are sometimes as responsible as the cop. But since this guy is no longer on our, the tax payers payroll, it is time to get on, and forget about this nut. It really is sad to think that there are some people who feel they can hide behind the badge and think they are exempt from " doing the right thing".

And yes, unfortunately, there is quite a lot of officers and deputies who send inappropriate texts and flirt (and cross the line like Claggett)...many of the ones who resort to this couldn't get girls in high school and now with the uniform they suddenly feel brave. Just don't do it on duty guys. And don't use your power to intimidate. It is not fair.
Is he married to the beautiful woman with that name who works in Sandy? I hope she knows that this has NOTHING to do with her, and everything to do with him.

Cops are the chosen people?!?!? Boy you Clackamas County boys really do live in a self inflated bubble. The truth is there is a culture in the Sheriff's Office that is expected to be seen in the south. No other agency in Oregon has more problems or questionable actions by officers than Clackamas County... not even Portland!!!
When the Sheriff's Office remembers they are sworn to serve and protect then we will offer our respect to them. As long as they continue their "I am better than you" & "Cops are the chosen people" attitude there will always be a friction between the public and our Sheriff's Office. The truth is police work is dangerous but also blue collar work. The same as a plumber or electrician remember it is your job to serve the public not the public serving you. So check your ego before you try and raise our taxes again to expand the width of the door frames around the Sheriff's Office to accommodate your big heads.

JJ is right, cops are not the "chosen" people, that is pure ego nonsense. I was a cop for several years and I worked with people I wouldn't trust to watch my house while I was on vacation. Clackamas County is definately a different breed altogether. I'm not sure what it is, but they definately need to check their ego's at the door before going out to do their jobs. For some reason, a climate has been created among law enforcement officers that they are better than the people they serve and thus, deserve more respect than others??? This is exactly why cops are given a bad name. The "us vs. them" mentality is what got them here and it keeps getting perpetuated by stupid actions like the story above. Now, in the defense, there are many good police officers and deputies that faithfully and honestly do their job to the best of their abilities and I was one of those cops, but after a while the climate of corruption and entitlement was too much to handle and I'm much happier in the private sector where I don't have to wear a steel plate on my chest and my back....Get over yourselves and start treating the public like customers because after all, you do work for them.

I'm confused. Some of you seem to be angered at the Sheriff's Office for getting rid of it's dead wood and showing us it's dirty laundry. I've watched the news over the past ten or so years and have seen that every time a Clackamas County Deputy really steps on it, he gets fired or jailed. The current Sheriff didn't hire any of these goof balls. They've been around for years. The Sheriff INHERITED these guys and it seems to me that he's cleaning house and people are complaining about it. If you have a complaint with a Deputy, MAKE A FORMAL INTERNAL AFFAIRS UNIT COMPLAINT and then publish the results on what happened and how you got treated. If you got treated poorly, file another complaint! I beleive that the Sheriff's Office has 400 or 500 employees. You take 500 lawyers, doctors, teachers, priests, soldiers or firemen...all people who have taken an oath to protect us...and you are going to have some bad apples. It's what happens to the bad apples once they are discovered that's important. Should the Sheriff's Office hide or reassign it's problem children or pull the plug on them??? I'm still confused.....

Don't know you personally, but a big thank you for doing such a professional job of bringing this important story to the public's attention. If not for responsible journalism like yours, the public may have been left with little more than the vague and misleading press release from Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Their press release made almost no mention of any misconduct and kind of made it sound like Claggett just resigned or retired to take another job.
I'm not so sure how much the public realises just how important these smaller papers under the umbrella of Pamplin Media are towards the end of informing us of people and events that really shape our community. We have seen you guys take a lot of flak for running stories like these and have heard the accusations about you guys being cop haters.
Simply not true!!! Thank you for the responsible reporting that has brought to light what so many would have liked to seen swept under the rug. We all have a right to know what those elected officials charged with public safety and multi-million dollar budgets are up to and whether they deserve our support or a big kick in the ass as in this case. To often we have seen conservatives here that equate authority with virtue insist that those that wear the badge are always good and that those that dare critisize are always bad.
We know now just how wrong this thinking is and how much it contributes to lawlessness and weakening the fabric of society. In my humble opinion, your covering this story and helping this case see the light of day, may have actually saved some young girls life down the road. I truely hope some other small community doesn't end up with Claggett as a result of our Sheriff cutting this investigation short and leaving him with his law enforcement certification in place.

The Molalla Forest Killer

In the early morning hours of August 7, 1987, serial-killer Dayton Leroy Rogers picked up his last prostitute victim, 26-year-old Jenny Smith. He drove her into the parking lot of a small business complex in Clackamas County, a small suburb of Portland, Ore.
Rogers was known by prostitutes for his odd behavior and bondage fetishes; it probably came as no surprise to Smith when he asked her to remove her clothes and bound her hands with a restraint fashioned from a shoe lace. He then began to cut her back and breasts with a knife. Smith screamed in horror. Rogers then shoved the knife into her vagina and began to stab her uncontrollably. Suddenly, the restraint gave way and Smith fell out onto the pavement. Bleeding profusely from her wounds, she tried to escape. Rogers quickly got out of the truck and grabbed her by the neck. He threw her to the ground and continued to stab her over and over.
James Dahlke, who was in a Denny's parking lot across the street, heard Smith scream. He motioned to another man in the parking to go with him to check out the commotion. By the time they were able to locate the source of the screams, Rogers was on top of Smith, between her legs and appearing to have sex with her.
"What do you think you are doing?" asked Dahlke.
Rogers got up and ran around the west side of the building. When Dahlke looked down at Smith he saw blood gushing out of a hole in her neck and various wounds in her abdomen. She did not appear to be conscious. A passerby rushed over and began administering CPR. Richard Bergio, the man in the parking lot with Dahlke, saw Rogers get into a pick-up truck and speed away. Bergio ran to his own vehicle and began to chase the blue Nissan pick-up truck. Just outside the city limits, Bergio was able to get close enough to make out the license plate number on the truck. He wrote the number down and hurried back to the scene of the crime.
Smith was rushed to the emergency room at Emanuel Hospital, where she later died in surgery.
Bergio reported to investigators the license plate number and gave a description of the assailant. The vehicle was registered to Dayton Leroy Rogers, who lived in a mobile home at 10518 South Hinds Road in Camby (a small town south of Portland).
Police questioned Rogers at his place of business, read him his rights, and then arrested him. After Rogers was booked, investigators confiscated his clothes and possessions, and impounded his vehicle for processing.
At the crime scene, police discovered a knife lying beneath some bushes. Police quickly executed a search warrant for Rogers's mobile home and business. They confiscated hair, clothing, a hacksaw, and knives. Inside of his truck, police found reddish brown stains. Lab tests showed the stains to be human blood, but not the blood of either Smith or Rogers.
On Aug. 31, 1987, Everett Banyard was hunting in the Molalla Forest when he discovered a decomposed body hidden under some brush. In going over the crime scene, detectives soon discovered six more bodies, dumped throughout the wooded area. Autopsies revealed that all seven were female, and that each had been bound, tortured, and had died as a result of multiple stab wounds. All seven of the woman had been murdered with the same type of knife.
One of the knives found at the scene matched the one Rogers had used to kill Smith.
The bodies were soon identified as that of 23-year-old Lisa Marie Mock, 26-year-old Maureen Ann Hodges, 35-old Christine Lotus Adams, 20- year-old Cynthia Devore, 26-year-old Nondace Cervantes, and 16-year-old Riatha Gyles. All of the victims were known prostitutes. The seventh body has never been identified.
A Clackamas Grand Jury indicted Rogers on Oct. 7, 1987, on charges of aggravated murder in connection with Smith's murder. Prosecutors had decided to try Smith’s murder separate from the others in order to give them more time to build their case for the other homicides and to secure Rogers's incarnation. Rogers plead not guilty.
On Feb. 4, 1988 the trial began. Following two weeks of testimony by investigators, pathologists and character witnesses, Rogers was found guilty of Smith's murder on Feb. 20, 1988. Two weeks later he was sentenced to serve life in prison.
Rogers was later indicted on the Molalla forest killings. On May 4, 1988, after five weeks of testimony and six hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of aggravated murder on all counts. Rogers was sentenced to death by lethal injection. He resides on death row at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Ore.

Dear Mr. Confused...
It is clear you really are confused! Let the record be clear, Clagget resigned and “you” the sheriff’s Office did not even pursue revoking his certification! The only times a deputy is dismissed for misconduct is when you can not cover it up any more. Since this complaint was through the Department of Justice, you did not have much choice in trying to sweep it under the carpet.
We are not angered at the Sheriff's Office for getting rid of bad deputies, we are angered they are not supervised and cover-ups are a plenty, we are angered that the Deputies Union controls the Sheriff, who was only a detective with no management experience before he was elected. The only time he had control over any money besides his own checkbook was a business venture that failed miserably because he couldn’t handle it. That is a true story; his business partner was a detective for a long time and now runs a thriving software company that only took off once Roberts left his company.
Sheriff Roberts can not act like a victim who inherited a problem. While that might be true when he first took office, Sheriff Roberts is has had 100% control of that Office for 4 years. That is plenty of time to clean house, but he can’t because the union paid for his campaign that put him in power in the first place. This is a man who is friendly and has a cute smile but is woefully under qualified to be Sheriff. There is no checks and balance in place in the Sheriff’s Office any more.
Lastly Mr. Confused, I know you are “the chosen few” in society, but using your comparison of the Sheriff’s Office to 500 attorneys or doctors or teachers etc is not accurate. Those groups of people are not entrusted to take care of our children in the middle of the night in extreme turmoil, they do not have the power to shoot us dead in our homes, and they can not change the rest of someone’s life through an arrest. We do not hold their testimony as the gospel truth like we do the word of a policeman.
Start acting worthy of the responsibility we place on you and there would be a lot less doubt when the public looks at you. Keep in mind, I only feel this way about the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. I think most police agencies do a great job. There is just something flawed in the leadership and culture at CCSO.

Your anger, resentment and, yes, hatred of the Sheriff's Office and it's employees is painfully clear.
I know nothing of what the Sheriff's Office did or did not do regarding former Deputy Claggett's certification. I do know that the State of Oregon and not the Sheriff's Office handles police certification. Why don't we see what happens when this case gets to the State of Oregon level.
Interesting...why didn't the Department of Justice investigate this complaint...that is, if Clackamas County is so corrupt? If, as you say, "cover-ups are aplenty", bring us all up to speed and provide us or this newspaper with a list of the cover-ups? Tell us what Deputies are currently working who should have, in your infinite wisdom, been fired. Come on, hater, tell us. Give us names, dates, times and places. You opened the door, hater, now have the intestinal fortitude to walk through it.
Let's see, if you give your lawyer all of your financial documents and he cleans you out, no problem, right?? If you send your kid to school and your kid winds up having sex with a teacher, no problem, right? If you're lying on the operating table and your doctor is using outdated medicine or unapproved operating techniques, no problem, right? If you send your kid to church camp and he gets molested by a priest, no problem, right? If a soldier on active duty in Iraq, rapes a girl and murders her unarmed family, no problem, right? THESE ARE ALL PEOPLE ENTRUSTED AND SWORN TO KEEP US SAFE. My attorney, doctor, priest, teacher, firemen and soldiers AND COPS better be telling me the "gospel truth".
As far as the "culture" comment goes, I know nothing about the culture at the Sheriff's Office. I do know that they, like every other employer, hire people from the human race. When you have 400-500 poeple working for you, you're going to have issues. Why don't you go to work for the Sheriff's Office. According to the web-site, they're hiring...Maybe if you worked harder to make the Sheriff's Office better, instead of hiding in secrecy and constantly berating it, the changes that you seek might actually happen. But it's so easy to take pot-shots from an anonymous angle, isn't it?
Oh, by the way, any citizen can arrest you and "change your life". Anyone with a gun has the "power to shoot you dead in your home". These powers are not reserved for the police. I'm glad that we have police officers who make good arrests and use their guns properly.

Well Mr. Not As Confused As You Think...
You obviously have some issues on your side of the isle as well. Your right people in many professions can have an impact but there is no doubt police officers hold a special role in society. Anyone arguing against that is trying to lower the standard of police work to meet the lowest common denominator.
The culture APPEARS to have an attitude not of service to the public but the public must serve them. We should have strong and capable police forces but we should NOT have storm troops marching through our neighborhoods. There are plenty of details and questionable activities available but only the Sheriff can make it a priority.
Why does your posting try to lower standards? As a member of Sheriff's Office should you say something like... another bad apple gone and we are going to take this step and that step to prevent any other predatory perverts from using their badges to get some fun. Maybe start an annual drug testing program? Let’s look at the history here, a deputy committing armed robberies with a gun to steal prescription meds, a jailer was arrest for stealing drugs from inmates. Another deputy was arrested for playing with himself in a park as women jogged by; yet another deputy was caught by the news on “To Catch a Predator” type program who met a 14 year old girl online and trying to hookup with her. Opps… those are just a few incidents. Should I continue with why I don’t trust the Sheriff’s Office? There appears to be a common theme in behavior within your culture.
Oh and look at the press release on Claggot, the sheriff’s Office made him sound like he was died in the line of duty saving a baby form a burning building. What garbage, it should have said he committed horrendous acts and violated the public trust and we will not stand for that in this county. We fired him because the public trust is the most important thing to us. But that is not what Sheriff Roberts does, he hides behind attack dogs, and flashes a fake smile and says things like “Gosh, golly gee, I did not know that was going on in our office. That is a shame, he is a really good guy and it is a bummer I have to let him resign and no I am not going to petition DPSST to revoke his certification. I like him so much I hope the Sandy PD hires him to team up with Officer Bergin”
Typical Clackamas County Style you automatically go to bunker mentality and try to discredit anyone who may ask a question or raise a concern against your beloved Sheriff's Office. This is America, not Russian, we are allowed to ask questions and the public is allowed to share there expectations. Your attitude is what causes such strong emotions against the entire Office.
In regards to your rant, why are you so sensitive on some issue? I support my local LE, why does it offend you that I take issue with the Sheriff's Office and not Portland or OSP or Milwaukie or Oregon City or Beaverton or Vancouver? Out of all the police shootings I can remember in the last 5 years there were two I questioned both from the SO not from Portland or anywhere else. The Kaady shooting and the one on Sunnyside Road where one of your supervisors thought it would be okay to stick a rifle in the face of a subject who was fighting despite the fact 4 other deputies were pig piled on the guy holding him down. Talk about creating your own circumstances. I am not saying you should use the fuzzy handcuffs on the guy, he should have gotten roughed up because it is never appropriate to fight with the police, but shot in the face????
Just to point out, you are hiding behind a screen name as well. But like the Sheriff himself, you have the idea that everyone else must live to a certain standard and there is a separate set of laws and expectation you can work from. So go pat yourself on the back and tell each other how great you are in briefing don’t forget to remind all your recruits that they are the chosen ones. Maybe someday you will understand was public service is truly about. When that day comes I will be happy to change my attitude and cheer for CCSO”

Thanks for your insightful comments. Unfortunately your waisting your time on the confused loser that is always pro-corruption, pro-sexual offender, and pro-almost everything that is dark and evil. This bum is always out there lurking around in the shawdows when decent citizens gather to raise the bar on law enforcement issues. He's kind of like those nutts on right wing radio that keep telling us Obama is really a Moslem terrorist.
I don't think this guy is really a cop. He's more like the jock sniffers that hang around pro-sports figures hoping to get a signed autograph. Pretty sure this is some freek that liked being handcuffed and driven out to Camp Namanu in Claggett's squad car. Real cops don't want or need freeks like this defending them or trying to lower the bar on common decency. Real cops have honor, this loser has none.

One more big thanks to all those virtuous, ethical and honest citizens whose hard work blocked efforts by CCSO to cover up another case of official misconduct. And a big thanks to Linda Malone & Pamplin Media for helping out on this one. Each time we prevail in these ethical issues, it makes it that much harder for the old guard to get away with their lies & business as usual charades. We don't need to argue with the obvious losers here. Let them defend the dark, devious deception and dishonesty of this dangerous satanic sex cult of drug users operating within the ranks of our sheriff's office. We know that justice shall ultimately prevail. The tide has turned in favor of truth, justice, and the real American way. Thank you Jesus for exposing the hypocrites and driving one more sinner out of this unholy temple.

Back in 2004,a mother asked if it was okay for a male police officer to stop her daughter and ask to examine her backpack or question her alone. I told this mother "NO". I told her if it ever happened to her minor daughter, the girl should immediately ask for the policeman to call for a superior or female to be present. Our trust in policemen must be held at the highest standard. If women are ever going to Take Back the Night, we must be able to trust the police.
We all know that no one is perfect. There are backroom jokes, parties and "affairs" always whether you are a male or a female. For a police officer to seduce a minor, take pornographic pictures and continue to do it for years is apalling. Someone who worked with this police officer probably saw those pictures.
We are dealing with just the tip of the iceberg here.

By the same token, Sheriff Roberts should do the honorable deed of resigning his elected position because of his failure to pursue the numerous citizen complaints against CCSO Deputy Claggett during the last nearly 4 years. I'm sure he and his family could live quite well on his $100,000+ annual retirement income.
While we are at it, lets suggest that Sandy Police Chief Skelton consider the same option for basically the same reason[s].
I'm sure that in the upcoming months more public exposure of the misdeeds of both law enforcement agencies may hasten the departure of both Roberts & Skelton. Perhaps the Federal Lawsuits involving Claggett & Bergin, both present & pending, will help speed up their decisions.
Another good idea is for all law enforcement personel to volunteer to take a drug test and not hide behind their Union's objection. That would include the DA's Office too.
I wonder how many of these fine public servants would fail the test should they even take one.

I am a Clackamas County Deputy, a Father and a Tax Payer.
I am appalled with the actions of Claggett, as are the majority of the cops I work with. I have a family and I have a deep desire to not only do the right thing when no one is watching, but to insist that the Deputies I work with also do the right thing. I have gone against the grain one time in the past and turned fellow deputies for actions I feel were against our policy (Not criminal.)
I worked with Claggett in the past and found this charge to be embarrassing and disgusting. This was an on-duty event, and had I known about it, it would have been informing my chain of command.
I along with a great majority of my department welcome random drug testing. Do you think I want to be shoulder to shoulder with a Deputy who uses drugs as we are chasing the guy down a dark alley who just stole the stereo from your car (Or worse.)
I don't use drugs, I have never ever ingested, smoked or otherwise taken drugs in my entire life to include marijuana. I no longer drink alcohol because I am sick of seeing the results of the use of alcohol (Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Animal abuse, suicide ect ect.)
If I could back up 10 years, I would not be a cop. The crap I see on a weekly basis is mentally draining. The guys I work with by in large are a hard working group of people who love to track down bad guys who do the community harm.
Claggett is gone, and unfortunately, there will be others. Cops are people too. We were not born and breed as cops. We are everyday people who you can call at 0200 in the morning when there is a shadow in you backyard that you don't want to check out.
And remember, we may be driving our Chargers a little too fast, but we may be headed to your parents house or your children house to grab that shadow in the back yard before he commits a crime against your person or property.
As my boss says "It an honor to serve you" and I sincerely mean that.

God Bless you and thank you for your service and obvious good character. As many of us on the reform side have pointed out, we know that most cops are doing a good job and that most people wouldn't want or couldn't handle the stressful job you cops have. I know it get's lost at times in the battle of words but most of us respect you guys and want to strengthen the public support you need to be effective. We want to honor the tradition of service and sacrifice that good law enforcement traditionally has had. Our beef isn't with the rank & file. It's with the leadership, the policies, and the politics practiced by those in power. It's about the misuse of the media, the courts, and legislature. It's about the half truths given to the public and the propaganda sold through the media.
If our case is sometimes overstated, exagerated, or even distorted, it is in defense against those with much more power that do the same exact thing. Many of us are ex-civil servants ourselves. As you probably know from your own experiences, law enforcement's worst enemies are very often it's own supporters. There are just too many nutts out there that are unwilling to admit as you do that behavior like Claggett's is disgusting and embarrassing to a respectable department and that certain benchmarks must be met and held.. Many of these groupies defend the worst conduct of cops and end up turning "most" of the public against you. Unfortunately it is often those unwanted supporters of yours that do you the most harm.
Some of us out here that really do support you are working hard to help you get rid of the bad apples and bring accountability to these fringe nutt cases that attempt to hide behind your respectability. There is a group on the mountain and in Sandy that over a period of a few years has done irrepairable damage to the honor and respect of your department. These people are idealogues, and extremist that consider themselves to be some type of cultural warriors and have injected politics and self interest into the business of law enforcement. These are the same type of germs that have almost single-handedly ruined our country by injecting their politics into our federal justice system and churches. These people always feel themselves to be above the law and operate on the principle that the end justifies the means. These are the people that scare us the most and should scare you too. These are the people that we are keeping a close eye on. These are the people hiding behind the anti-drug slogans and campaigns, however this is not their real mission. We whole-hearedly support the anti drug campaign, but not their messengers who are corrupt.
Real drug reform starts with teaching kids that "ALL" drugs have the potential to be bad, (including the ones that doctors and the pharmaceudical industry kill thousands with each year)and that the real issue is self responsibility. Until we can get the pharmaceudical propaganda out of the schools, our kids are handicapped and placed in harms way by being indoctrinated with false information straight from our federal government, force fed to them through these idealogues. We also understand that drug abuse is more of a medical issue than a law enforcement issue and that you guys could spend your time much better going after real criminals. If we are to allow this group masquerading as an ant-drug group that was so closely associated with Claggett to survive, we need a change of leadership at the very least.

Of course we all agree that the behavior of a few individuals wearing the badge was wrong. I'd go as far to say 99.9% of us agree with each other, you, me, and the deputy included. The problem is how you posted your opinion. Time after Time! It was threatening, unprofessional, and down right disrespectful. Until you change your rhetoric the “Mt. Hood Mafia” IS part of the problem.

Don't know you personally, but a big thank you for doing such a professional job of bringing this important story to the public's attention. If not for responsible journalism like yours, the public may have been left with little more than the vague and misleading press release from Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Their press release made almost no mention of any misconduct and kind of made it sound like Claggett just resigned or retired to take another job.
I'm not so sure how much the public realises just how important these smaller papers under the umbrella of Pamplin Media are towards the end of informing us of people and events that really shape our community. We have seen you guys take a lot of flak for running stories like these and have heard the accusations about you guys being cop haters.
Simply not true!!! Thank you for the responsible reporting that has brought to light what so many would have liked to seen swept under the rug. We all have a right to know what those elected officials charged with public safety and multi-million dollar budgets are up to and whether they deserve our support or a big kick in the ass as in this case. To often we have seen conservatives here that equate authority with virtue insist that those that wear the badge are always good and that those that dare critisize are always bad.
We know now just how wrong this thinking is and how much it contributes to lawlessness and weakening the fabric of society. In my humble opinion, your covering this story and helping this case see the light of day, may have actually saved some young girls life down the road. I truely hope some other small community doesn't end up with Claggett as a result of our Sheriff cutting this investigation short and leaving him with his law enforcement certification in place.

I have known Brandon Claggett for about 10 years and out of that he is a great person. I cannot beleive that the Sandy Post would publish this story on the front page of their paper, out of this everyone that I know will be cancelling the Sandy Post.You must have nothing else to write about Claggett, when only a hired private investigator says he acted inappropriate well as far as I am concerned that is only his opinion ,until he was charged there should have never been a "front" page story where everyone knows him. Also, it seems like the Sandy Post has a lot of questionable items they hear things from a third party, write a story or an assumption and then have to rewrite the truth. If you are going to name an active member of our community then you should name the woman that supposedly accused him.
He is a huband, son and father in fact he has raised his son by himself for a very long time. He and his wife are both active members in our community and I find it ridiculous that on the same front page you critisize Claggett and then show his wife as a Chairwomen for Sandy Relay for Life. I feel horribly for the Claggett family.
We will stand behind Claggett and his family any day of the week he is a wonderful officer and we are proud to have him in our Community.

The only reason this came to an end is because he knew he had made mistakes and fessed up and then quit. I will completely agree that had he been anything other than a cop it would not have mattered. Look at former president Clinton! I know for a fact that this goes on with officers in Sandy as well as Portland as I have friends who have had these "flirtations via text" with them. They are not illegal nor are they intelligent but the officers involved are human! Lets give Brandon and the others a break.

I just want to agree with the writer above. We should always be nice, polite and use good etiquette when talking about people as important as cops. These are the people that come help us when were in trouble. They are good and should never get in trouble for what they do because you can't do wrong when you’re doing right. Even when they turn out to be what some call perverts, we should still respect them and let them give our kids a ride in their car. These people that say bad things about cops must be those ugly poor people that sometimes take drugs or get arrested. They are just mad. They really scare me. I just want everybody to do what they are told and be nice to cops.
Before I became a war hero, I played pro football in Canada and US, then I got trapped in Cuba after Bay of Pigs and couldn't leave so I learned to play harmonica while I work in cigar factory for Castro. Once we got to visit Poland behind iron curtain with our Big Top circus harmonica band. Everybody in Circus play harmonica plus do a lot of dangerous tricks for public. When I was playing the Cuban National Anthem on my harmonica on trapese, my comrads through me over the wall to freedom. I had to seek refugee status and hide in the American embassy for weeks. Then I came to America for repatriation. Hey, this is good place. I like that Ronny Reagan and George Bush too. They's a good guy, yea. Thats how I got back here and began playing with Jimmy Buffet and Van Morrison and got all famous and stuff. I have many autographed posters from famous musicians and know almost everyone who is important now in this country. A lot of people want to be just like me.
Now I'm getting old and have to take a lot of medical marijuana so they don't let me drive or go outside much any more. At night they hook me up to machine and give me more pain medicine for my old football and war injuries. Anyway, I just want to remind everybody that cops are good and people who complain are bad. Don't ever trust anyone who complain. They try to make revolution and then you get something like Cuba or Russia. It's always best to follow orders and do what you are told. I know police would never do bad thing or hurt little girls. Some people lie to make revolution. Don't trust them. They are bad and come from the poor dirty people who drink too much sometime. Just be good and the cops will always be good to you. That’s what I think.

I don't really care what 2 consenting adults do on their own time, but this cop was on OUR time! Plus, it's very creepy that the roots of this extend into local high schools. Aren't cops supposed to lead by example? His behavior sounds inappropriate at best. If cops want to be respected by the community, they have to conduct themselves in a way that inspires confidence in them. Otherwise, they come across as crooks themselves, who are "above the law". Why would your average Joe want to assist the cops (with information or whatever) when he thinks the cops are as bad or worse than the so-called bad guy? I know police work is dangerous, and many times thankless. But bad cops are, IMHO, worse than the crooks. You expect the crooks to be bad guys - bad cops betray our trust in law and order. Who do you call if you can't trust the cops? This creep will probably just get another police job somewhere else (the article says nothing about taking his police certification - the investigation has been dropped), and continue and maybe even escalate this type of behavior. Wonderful...
