Aaron Bayer noted that when he became the interim principal at Sandy High School last fall, secretary Erin Payton made a nameplate bearing the title of “principal” for him.
But Bayer had other ideas about the nameplate, even suggesting it just read “educator.”
“I’m not a big fan of titles,” said Bayer, 34.
On Thursday, Jan. 28, Bayer’s title was solidified, however, when Oregon Trail School District Superintendent Shelley Redinger named him the new principal of Sandy High School. Redinger made the announcement at the school’s library. Staff in attendance gave him a round of applause.
“I feel I’m in a great place and I could not ask to be in a better place at a better time,” said Bayer, who lives in Sandy. “I felt like that from the first day I got here as a vice principal.”
Bayer arrived at Sandy High School before the 2008-09 school year and served as a vice principal and activities director at first. When Brian Heinze abruptly resigned as principal for unknown reasons before the beginning of this school year, the district appointed Bayer as the interim principal.
