This proposed park plan for the Bornstedt property, owned by the city of Sandy, was one of three brought to a public forum last week by the architect. Revisions are being made, and another forum is scheduled for late February.

Nearly three dozen Sandy residents turned out for last week’s public forum on improvements to three city parks: Sandy River Park, Meinig Park and Bornstedt Park.
Another part of the current plans to upgrade the park system involves signs placed in strategic places, especially for trails.
The initial ideas for park upgrades, according to Community Services Director Nancy Enabnit, came from city staff and the parks technical advisory committee.
There were people at last week’s forum interested in each of the parks as well as the signage project, Enabnit said. So, ideas were gathered for each upgrade. Architects at Group Mackenzie will be revising plans to be presented at another forum in late February.
“At the forum, people could vote on each of the elements of each of the concepts (drawings),” said Enabnit. “At the next meeting, the architect will present the preferred concept (based on ideas gathered last week).”
The Bornstedt property (nearly 5 acres) will serve the people living in that neighborhood with walking and play areas as well as a community garden and a meeting hall.
Meinig Park is destined to be the central area for the 2011 Centennial celebration, and city officials want to ready the trails for the throngs of people expected to visit the once-in-a-lifetime event and add seating improvements to an amphitheater. Also, other areas of the park will receive aesthetic upgrades, including restoration along the creek.
