A man from Boring died and four others were taken to the hospital with serious injuries Friday evening, Dec. 18, after a head-on collision on a four-lane, divided section of Highway 26 between Sandy and Gresham.
Several 9-1-1 calls alerted authorities just after 5:30 p.m. that an eastbound vehicle was traveling in the westbound lanes of Highway 26 near the Boring exit.
Moments later the crash was reported, and medical personnel as well as law enforcement responded.
On arrival, they found a Toyota Prius, which investigators said had been driven the wrong way by Anthony Petereit, 53. Petereit was pronounced dead at the scene. He had no passengers and was using safety restraints.
In November, Petereit moved to Boring from Utah. Troopers learned he was diabetic and are investigating the possibility he may have experienced a medical problem while he drove home to Boring from work in the Gresham area, according to Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.
The other vehicle, which apparently collided with Petereit’s Prius in the left westbound lane, was a four-door Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by Terry Bradbury, 33, of Vancouver, Wash.
