ADVERTISEMENTS
To show support for troops, the Clackamas County Democratic Party will collect items during June to be sent to members of Oregon’s National Guard deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Desired items include food (any kind of prepackaged snack or junk food that will ship well, including drink mixes and condiments, but no home-baked goods), recreational (anything soldiers can use on their down time, such as DVDs, CDs, current magazines, books and newspapers) and miscellaneous (such as small flashlights, batteries, phone cards, or school supplies and toys to be given away to local children).
As part of this effort, the Oregon Trail Democrats will accept items from June 1-14 at two locations in Sandy.
• Some Bookstore in Sandy, 39080 Pioneer Blvd. Drop off items from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The store is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• The Sandy Community Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd. Drop off items from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A detailed list of desired and prohibited items will be available at both drop off locations.
Items also can be brought to the June 13 meeting of the Oregon Trail Democrats, 38935 Proctor Blvd. in Sandy. The group meets from 9 a.m. to noon.
For a complete list of appropriate items, or to learn how individuals and groups can initiate their own “Love Boxes,” visit www.loveboxesforourtroops.com/.
Respectfully Barry, how many liberals do you actually know, and how many of them actually hate the troops?
I know several liberals and I've never met a single one that even disliked the troops, let alone hated them. In fact some of them have sons and daughters currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and many more are themselves retired military personnel.
I will say that every liberal I know disliked, and yes some even hated, many of the policies of former President Bush, but the policies of George Bush and brave and honorable men and women that his policies put in harm's way are not the same thing.
Some of the liberals I know did in fact protest against these policies, and some of those same liberals now protest against the policies of President Obama, on a regular basis, right here in Sandy. A lot of them feel that they are in fact supporting the troops by opposing an unnecessary war of choice in Iraq.
Doesn't seem like hypocrisy to me, but rather seems to show that their opposition is based on principle rather than partisanship.

Thanks Pat. I agree, Barry must have gotten confused. Democrats and progressive-minded people are against baseless war and occupation, not against the men and women who join the military.
I don't think it's news that Democrats' values include peace and patriotism--but it may come as a surprise to some that there is a difference between an issue to be argued, and a human being who deserves recognition and support.

Re: Democrats collecting donations for troops
Funny, when George Bush was in office, the dems did nothing but hate and protest the troops.
To be a Liberal is to be as hypocritical as possible, whenever possible.
